MTS Receives Pinnacle Award

Posted June 19, 2013 in News Category

maplewddmv-018webDonate Life America (DLA) presented a Pinnacle Award in the department of motor vehicles category to Mid-America Transplant Services for its Targeted Registry Initiative to increase the number of registered organ, eye and tissue donors. The awards were presented in June at DLA’s annual meeting in Indianapolis.

MTS has encouraged St. Louisans to “carry the Badge of Honor” – the small heart emblem on their driver or non-driver license that indicates their participation in the organ and tissue donor registry – since early 2012. The Badge of Honor campaign is aimed at zip codes in St. Louis where donation registry numbers are lower than the state average. Through engagement of license office employees, community outreach, traditional and online media, and paid advertising, MTS implemented the grassroots campaign in 2012. At five license offices in St. Louis, MTS representatives are regularly meeting with office managers, organizing “Thank You for Asking” events in which a recipient thanks employees for asking customers to join the registry, training staff on the importance of organ and tissue donation, and hosting registry drives at the license offices.  Six other organizations received Pinnacle Awards for outstanding programs in the areas of education, volunteers, media, hospital initiatives, affinity partnerships and public relations/marketing campaigns.

“Many of the program entries targeted a demographic of specific interest to Donate Life America, 18-24 year olds, who are the least likely to register as organ, eye and tissue donors,” said David Fleming, Donate Life America’s President and CEO.  “Donate Life America’s just released sixth annual National Donor Designation Report Card delves into the importance of reaching this generation and features case studies by some Pinnacle Award recipients.”

Pinnacle Award winners included:
Creative Challenge Art Contest Calendar – Legacy of Life Hawaii (educational initiatives)
Done Vida Embajadores – OneLegacy (volunteer programs)
“Many Faces” Campaign – Donate Life Ohio/Second Chance Trust Fund (media initiatives)
Wall of Hope – California Transplant Donor Network (hospital initiatives)
Wolverines for Life – University of Michigan Transplant Center (affinity partnerships)
World Record-Breaking Organ Donation Outreach – Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network (public relations/marketing campaigns)
