Calling All Heroes

Working with the Missouri Hospital Association and several area hospitals, Mid-America Transplant Services embarked on a new challenge to save lives in April to recognize those who have joined the organ and tissue donor registry and educate those who have not. Hosting registry drives at hospitals within MTS’s services area, MTS invited senior leadership at each hospital to visit our registry table, join the registry, and sign a heart declaring their intent to Be A Hero. Watch the video at the right for highlights from each registry drive.
In April and May, MTS partnered with Saint Louis University Hospital, Mercy Hospital-St. Louis, Christian Hospital, DePaul Health Center, St. Clare Health Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Mercy Hospital-Jefferson. These events included special guests, like Spider-Man, Fredbird and the SLU Billiken. Registry drives at several other hospitals are scheduled for later this year.
More than 120,000 people are currently waiting for a transplant, with more than 1,500 waiting in the St. Louis region. Part of the solution to this problem is to continue educating the public about the life-saving effects of donation and transplantation and encouraging them to join their state donor registry. One person can save up to eight lives and improve 50 more.
You can Be A Hero too. Join the registry today.
