The Mid-America Transplant Family House provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for families who must relocate temporarily to St. Louis for lifesaving transplant care.
Offering mid- to long-term housing, this invaluable resource ensures that families can stay close to their loved ones during critical times. This low- or no-cost option is essential for families who are far from home and facing significant medical expenses, allowing them to focus on what truly matters—supporting their loved ones on the journey to recovery.

Family House is located in the St. Louis Dogtown neighborhood close to the city’s four transplant centers:
- Barnes-Jewish Hospital
- SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center
- St. Louis Children’s Hospital
- SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital

- 21 fully furnished single-family apartments (6 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom private residences)

- A network for family members and caregivers to receive support from others undergoing the transplant journey, as well as Mid-America Transplant staff
Eligibility
- Family House referrals must be submitted by a transplant professional at one of the four transplant centers in St. Louis.
- The family must live more than 25 miles from the transplant hospital.
- The family must agree to the Mid-America Transplant Family House policies and guest guidelines.
- Patients under 21 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Guests must be able to care for themselves or have a caregiver who can provide assistance.
We have welcomed over 500 families to the Family House. Walking with them through even a small part of their journey has taught us about the resilience of the human spirit and the crucial role that hope plays throughout the transplant process.
