Partner Workforce Development

Mid-America Transplant is proud to support students and professionals in areas of study that are critical to donation and transplantation.
Creating awareness for organ and tissue donation throughout communities shares the importance of saying yes to donation. We proudly connect with students in the fields of nursing, mortuary sciences, respiratory therapy, and surgical technologists.
Mid-America Transplant, in partnership with colleges and universities within our service area, has provided scholarships for aspiring nursing and mortuary science students. Inspired by Life Scholarships are offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Cox College, Missouri State University, and St. Louis Community College.
Grants
Grants have been awarded to organizations with a connection to organ, eye, and tissue donation. Recent grants have been awarded to organizations that provide grief services for donor families, engage in clinical innovation research to make more organs available for donation, and support preventative programs to catch health issues early and keep people off the transplant list.
Grants
Medical Professional Education Reimbursement Grants
To support the education and training of donation and transplantation professionals within our service area, we offer grants that cover costs associated with continuing education in critical care and trauma medicine.
Community Grants
Each year, funds are distributed to organizations dedicated to:
- Reducing the need for organ and tissue donation.
- Increasing the availability of organs and tissues for those in need.
- Improving the lives of recipients and donor families.
Nursing Programs Education
We educate tomorrow’s nurses about organ and tissue donation through an interactive curriculum. Developed in partnership with Dr. Linda Heitman, professor of nursing at Southeast Missouri State University, this first-of-its-kind nursing school curriculum provides organ and tissue donation education to future nurses, detailing how the process works and highlighting the important role that nurses serve in this lifesaving work. Since its launch in 2019, over 5,000 students have completed the curriculum.
In cooperation with Southeast Missouri State University, the platform is now offered to 11 nursing schools. Five online modules include: an introduction to the platform, an overview of donation, the nurse’s role in organ and tissue donation, family bereavement and aftercare, and pre- and post-tests.
