In December 2013, I was able to meet a gentleman who had been on dialysis for almost 5yrs. He was in dire need of a kidney. My stepdaughter and son-in-law had read about him and his story in a Church bulletin. I felt a strong urge to go with them on that scheduled evening and was able to meet him and his wife. As Don, the potential recipient, spoke with my stepdaughter and son-in-law, I was able to speak with his wife. Without her even trying, she inspired me to be tested to see if Don and I were matches.
Later, after all the testing, through all the needed testing for compatibility, I received word we were a definite match. So, in April 2014, we were able to share a kidney and he became my ‘big brother.’ I have never regretted my decision and I have also received blessings by my decision to donate. I have now extended my family and we consider ourselves one big happy family.
Now I advocate anytime I can that people may not always know their recipient beforehand, but God has his hand in all of our stories.
