When I was seven, I got E. coli O157. This turned into HUS, which caused my kidneys to shut down. I was on dialysis until my kidneys started functioning just enough to come off dialysis for 8 years.
When my kidney function declined during the summer of 2024, I went through the evaluation and was put on the active list for a kidney. Six days later, my mom received the call at work that there was a perfect match for me. We went straight to the hospital, and I had my transplant the next morning on October 16.
I am now 1 year and 5 months post-transplant, and I am doing great and feel amazing. I play basketball and softball. I think about my donor and their family often. I am beyond grateful to my donor and the family for deciding to give life to others through organ donation.
